Tips for operating the mini excavator
- Spin the excavator 180° before backing it off the trailer.
- Take it off the trailer very slowly
- Take a couple of hours to get used to operating it before starting the job.
- If you keep the blade at the front of you and on the ground you can operate the machine without too much bouncing around.
- The following are the tips from this video: https://youtu.be/cAlBsUmmGPA
- Learn how to move the machine with your feet, then your hands are freer to stay on the same controls
- Learn where the machine has the most power. This is when the arm is at a 45° angle. Keep the arm at this angle, and move the machine backwards each time, rather than moving the angle of the arm.
- Learn how to move the tracks with the boom instead of your feet. Whichever way you want to move your tracks, move the boom in the opposite direction.
- Don't max out the arm or the bucket. This will allow for much smoother operation.
- Take your time and don't get frustrated!

Hiring a mini excavator might seem a bit daunting if you have never used one before. For many of our customers, it is also their first go at the helm. We asked them about their experience with the mini excavator.
Damon, mini excavator hire Templestowe:
"We used the mini excavator for landscaping - to spread dirt around our property, and cut the land to a certain shape. The excavator was clean and tidy. My advice for future hirers would be to go super slow when getting it off the trailer. Spend a couple of hours getting used to using it if you have never driven one before"
Fed, mini excavator hire Boronia:
"I used the mini excavator to dig trenches for pipes at my house. My advice to others is to spin it the other way to get it off the trailer. The more clearance you have around you the better."
